New software

The farm’s systems were upgraded with several new softwares:

  • OpenOffice 3.0
    • Available in the Applications menu, under Office
    • Is an addition to, not a replacement of OpenOffice 2.4
    • Might do a better job at opening some non-standard MS Office files
    • Can be found at  /opt/openoffice.org3/program/ if you want to open a .doc file from Firefox (Advanced users)
  • Gnome-Do
    • A quick launcher for programs, available at the Applications menu, under Accesories

Please help find bugs in TTime

TTime is a cross platform utility that makes it easy to build your weekly schedule and plan your courses while registering to the Technion’s courses.

It is installed on all the farm’s computers under Applications\Accesories\TTime

Please, if you find any problem with the program, or if it crashes, let us or the developement team know, so it can be made better!

Matlab installed, facebook chat in pidgin

Matlab has been installed on the IBM stations (Large black stations in the first line near the door).

You can open it in the menu, under “Education” or by typing matlab in the terminal. Please report any problems you encounter.

You can now add your facebook contacts to Pidgin (Available under Internet->Pidgin instant messenger) and chat with your facebook friends without opening the facebook website.

Flash player upgraded

Firefox’s Flash player was upgraded to the latest version 10.

Performance should be noticeably better, especially at full screen applications (such as youtube videos).
